The mission of the Center for Excellence in Surgical Outcomes is to conduct innovative, multi-disciplinary clinical and translational research while working with global teams of experts in virtual research environments. This is achieved through "Research on Research" methodology, which aims to facilitate research innovation and improve its quality, productivity, and return on investment by:

identifying and monitoring common problems in virtual research environments and research policy

interdisciplinary study of problems in virtual research environments and research policy followed by dissemination of resulting models

development and dissemination of Web-based tools and standards to solve problems in virtual research environments and research policy, followed by their insertion back into the research environment
